No we are not dead or lost, we have lost track of time. We
really appreciate all of you that faithfully pray and give financially (even if
we do not give updates or thank you as much as we should). It really goes to show that our Heavenly
Father has put us deep in your hearts or more accurately the children of this
part of Africa. We are doing well and everyone is healthy.
At the Children’s home, the mothers have been kept busy this
last 1 ½ years with all the baby intakes that we have received:
Givass came on April6,2022 at 5 1/2 months old after his
mother passed away unexpectantly in the night.
She supposedly went to bed healthy and never awoke. Last month
he successfully transitioned back to the care of his father and his father’s
wife. (Polygamy here in the village is very common)
Favors came Dec 27,2021 at 2 weeks of age after her mother passed away the day before from complications of the c-section. Last month she successfully transitioned back to the care of her young father and his grandmother. We were quite worried about this transition as Favors was very attached to her housemother here and had been weary of any stranger for a while. It was amazing to see God’s grace at work at how quickly she warmed up to her grandmother!
Fred came June22,2022 at two and a half weeks old after his mother
unexpectedly passed away from a nosebleed. Because the father was very young and was
denying paternity we thought he might be a more long term placement here but us
but at a meeting we had with the family last week we were surprised to see the
father present and desiring to take and care for the baby (with his mother) after
the rainy season next year. They agreed
to keep the mom’s side of the family involved and even the mother’s family was
happy with this arrangement. Apart from
being shocked at this change of plans we just marveled and praised God for his
goodness once again.
Adwell came to us Sep 23, 2022 at 3 months after his mother
passed away after receiving a drink from a traditional healer to treat her
coughing, body aches and tiredness. He has
struggled with frequent skin infections and isn’t very settled unless he is
being held but is a precious boy who will probably transition back home early
next year.
Salai came to us Aug 13, 2022 at 1 and a half months after her
mother passed from a short unknown illness that caused swelling in her legs. Since her father is still alive she will also
transition home early next year.
Stela came Mar 31, 2023 at 2 days old after her mother passed
away from complications of a c-section.
Since the father is a local businessman with more monetary means than
most he has agreed to pay for all of her formula in exchange for care here
until she transitions back to him and (and his other wife) around 1 year 6
months
Then just last week (less than a month after we transitioned Givass and Favors home) we received a one day old baby on July 6 2023 after his mother passed away from complications from a c-section. His father is still alive, so he will be a temporary care baby for us.
Miyoba, Mainza and Sanford are now living in Kalomo where
they attend schools that have higher education for them, normally from grade 8
and up. They are living in the house we
have in Kalomo. We miss them but are so proud of them and their effort to further
their education.
The community school that we have built and help to support out here in Mukamba is doing good but has it’s challenges. The community is still divided and are struggling to build the grade 7 classroom that they need. The teachers are working hard and it is really rewarding to see how the children from the area and orphanage kids are learning.
Please keep on praying for us for wisdom how to teach the
word of God that it would take root in the hearts of people. People can only
change if they choose to renounce their old ways and accept the life God has
for them. That seems to be difficult for
most because of the fear of ancestral spirits (which is really demons). Pray
that our hearts will be like Jeremiah’s, that we will weep for the people even when
they do not want to fully turn to God and that we will not get bitter. Please join us in praying for this in both
spiritual matters but also for the community development side.
It has been a hard year with farming due to many diseases
that came through our area. We lost a lot of cattle, pigs and sheep to death.
We also lost more than 70 sheep to theft.
The manager over the sheep knew that sheep were disappearing but did not
report it to me. My mistake was that I trusted him in everything and did not personally
count them myself. At the end the thief was found to be the son of our manager and
he had been steeling and selling the sheep for more than a year. His father had been covering for him until I went
to physically count them. After many days in courts and trips to town, his son
was sentenced to a 12month sentence in prison. Obbey is still working for us
but under a very strict agreement. He also has to pay a amount to replace some
of the stolen sheep.
Unfortunately the community development role that I have
been given is proving to have many challenges.
It is sad to say that most of the leaders that I have had meetings with
for development of their areas only want money so that they can do things and
then there is no plan or strategies to it. They also do not welcome advice to
come up with a plan or wanting to strategize a way that will be sustainable and
work. With God’s help, I will keep on
with a positive outlook and believe that one day there will be a leader in an
area that really wants change and we can then work together.
Financially we have been surviving but it has been hard (before
Covid and even now after Covid). We know
we are not the only ones that struggles.
Like everywhere expenses has gone up. Please pray for us in this and if
there is any of you who is blessed to give any amount monthly or once off it would
greatly be appreciated. If there is people that you know that would like to
receive news from us please send their email address and please forward our
news to as many as you like.
Prayer needs: For patience with the work, we do out here.
For the development of the children, spiritually and physically
For the house mothers for good health and strength, esp with
all the babies we have now
For people to change and declare God the creator, Jesus
Christ
For a TLB front and back loader to help develop dam’s for
water for animals in the communities and to fix roads to have better access to
town.
Personally: homeschooling
the two boys while having many other ministry duties has been challenging for
both Amber and the boys, especially with the many work and learning opportunities
(and distractions of living on a farm) available for the boys as well.
Our website is temporarily down but
we are trying to get it back up and running. Please contact us if you want to
know how to contribute financially.
